Being an older Christian, and single can sometimes feel like walking a lonely road, especially when it seems like everyone around you is married or starting families. If you’re a single Christian man struggling to find the “right kind” of partner, you’re not alone. Many in the church wrestle with the tension between their desire for marriage and the reality of a prolonged season of singleness.
The Struggle is Real, but God is Faithful
One of the challenges is meeting authentic Christian singles who share a commitment to traditional biblical values. In today’s world, it’s easy to encounter people who wear the label of “Christian” but don’t fully live it out. As a follower of Jesus, you may be seeking a partner who prioritises their relationship with God, lives in accordance with the Bible, and embraces the roles and responsibilities of a Christ-centered marriage. The scarcity of such individuals can make the journey feel isolating.
Adding to this difficulty, many Christian women marry young. It’s not uncommon to attend church services, look around, and see most women your age already married. It’s a common frustration that can sometimes lead to discouragement.
Finding Hope in the Waiting
Your season of singleness, though challenging, is not a punishment or a mistake. The Bible reminds us that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our plans. This season offers unique opportunities for growth, service, and deepening your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Singleness is also a time to prepare for marriage, should that be God’s will for you. Cultivate qualities like patience, kindness, humility, and faithfulness (Galatians 5:22-23). A Christ-centered relationship requires two people who are rooted in their faith, so now is the time to become the partner you aspire to find.
The Role of Community and Prayer
Instead of focusing solely on dating apps like Christian Mingle or Upward—though they can be helpful—lean into your local church community. Join small groups, serve in ministry, and build authentic friendships. Often, meaningful relationships develop naturally through shared experiences and mutual growth in faith.
Above all, commit your search to God through prayer. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, trusting Him to provide peace while we wait. Surrendering your desires to Him doesn’t mean giving up on marriage; it means trusting that His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).
A Vision Beyond Marriage
Marriage is a beautiful gift, but it’s not the ultimate goal. As Christians, our highest calling is to love God and love others (Matthew 22:37-39). Whether single or married, your life has profound value and purpose in advancing His kingdom.
Stay hopeful, remain faithful, and surround yourself with others who encourage your walk with Christ. When the time comes for that special relationship, it will be worth the wait. And until then, trust in God’s love, which never fails.
If you’re navigating this season, know that you’re not alone. The church is full of people—both married and single—who are rooting for you.
